I recorded these songs, and two others,1 with Stefan Hanson on January 13, 2017. We set up in our practice space on Warren Avenue in Portland, Maine, on a Friday during the day when things would be quiet. “Two More Owls” was the first and remains the only song I’ve written with and for a ukulele. The ending of it was improvised during the recording. Stefan did a fantastic job on the recording, and I think Ron Harrity may have assisted with some mixing and mastering challenges that cropped up later on, explaining the lengthy gap between when this was recorded and when I published it.

  1. The two other songs recorded in this session were “When My Sister Called Me” and “Are You Me?” (under an earlier title, “Come On, Matt”). I ended up deciding that those two songs worked better with a band, and they eventually were recorded for the So Said So record. ↩︎
